Orange Square Park – Formerly the site of brass band concerts during the Gilded Age, it was at this location that unproven local folklore tradition believes noted 1890s American author, Stephen Crane, gathered stories from veterans of the Civil War that would later be incorporated into his most famous work, “The Red Badge of Courage.” Possession of this twelve pounder field piece was largely made possible by Port Jervis business owner, village president, and captain with the 124th New York State Volunteers, Thomas Jefferson Quick, who approvingly inspected the cannon upon its April 1909 arrival.
