Crane House

“THE CRANE HOUSE – The home of Judge William Crane from 1890-1901.  His brother Stephen visited from 1891 – 1896 creating some of his finest works.” Text from historical marker dedicated on April 30, 1984.  *Note:  While there is a great deal of circumstantial reason to believe Crane’s work was heavily influenced by his time living the in and affection for Port Jervis, there is no proof that Crane created some of his “finest works” such as “The Open Boat” or “Red Badge of Courage” at this site.

This historic building is located at 19 East Main St. at the intersection of Sullivan Ave.
